This Saturday, the Palestinian Youth Movement and The Dallas Asian American Historical Society are continuing this long and vital tradition of preserving and archiving Palestinian artifacts and historical mementos by hosting a community archiving workshop in Dallas, titled “Threads of Our Homeland.”

Community members are invited to bring posters, photographs, flyers, personal documents, and other materials connected to Palestinian family histories, liberation movements, solidarity organizing, and community gatherings—whether rooted in Palestine or shaped across generations in the diaspora. Staff and volunteers will digitize items onsite to ensure their preservation for future generations.

Digital copies will be shared with participants via Google Drive or flash drive. Limited flash drives will be available, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own for quicker transfer.

The gathering will also include space for participants to share memories, record stories, enjoy food, and engage with interactive art exhibits designed to spark conversation and community reflection. The goal is to protect vulnerable histories, honor the experiences of families and activists, and ensure these narratives are represented within the wider archive of immigrant histories.

“Documenting our histories becomes even more urgent when communities face genocide, displacement, and cultural erasure,” said Stephanie Drenka, Executive Director of the Dallas Asian American Historical Society. “As an organization committed to preserving marginalized stories, we recognize that archiving is an act of resistance. By safeguarding these histories, we affirm the dignity of the Palestinian people and strengthen the collective narrative of immigrant and diasporic communities in Texas.”

“Palestinians for decades have fought to preserve, pass on, and advance their culture. Cultural preservation is extremely important in our fight for liberation, as it encompasses the whole of our people. We are witnessing it in real time as the occupation actively erases and steals our culture. Archiving is a form of resistance as it allows us to write our own narrative, highlighting our past, present, and future. At this workshop, our community will be able to bring their history to life. We will be able to share with each other what the occupation has tried to suppress,” said Ebba Anayah, Palestinian Youth Movement Dallas.

Despite more than two years of genocide and 77 years of ongoing Nakba and displacement, the Palestinian people and diaspora continue to persevere by preserving their culture and history for future generations. While the settler colonial Zionist entity was established on the sham premise that Palestine was a “land without a people,” generations of Palestinians maintain that their history and connection with the land spans back hundreds of years. Similar to the cultural erasure of Native American indigenous cultures and land grabs, Palestinians have faced attempts to erase their culture in order to justify the apartheid and colonialist structures imposed on their communities. That is why cultural preservation is an act of resistance: to say that Palestinians are reclaiming their identity and agency, maintaining their resilience, and showcasing that they have always been present and steadfast.

This event is open to all community members–both Palestinian and non-Palestinian–to attend and benefit from.
