Join us for a screening of “The Fall of the I-Hotel,” a powerful documentary that chronicles the fight to save San Francisco’s International Hotel. The building was home to hundreds of elderly Filipino and Chinese immigrants and became a flashpoint for resistance in the 1970s.
In the early morning hours of August 4, 1977, hundreds of riot police forcibly evicted the remaining tenants. Elderly residents were dragged out, and the hotel was demolished. The raid was broadcast on national television and sparked a wave of outrage, activism, and solidarity that continues to inspire housing and anti-eviction movements today.
The documentary was produced and directed by Curtis Choy in 1983. We will be watching an original version from our collection that has been digitized from videocassette.
